Erasmus is a lovely suburb in the town of Bronkhorstspruit. Named after C.J.G. Erasmus, the suburb is rich in history. A brief history of the area
In 1858 a group of Voortrekkers settled in the Kalkoenkransrivier ('Turkey Cliff River') creek. A town was only laid out on the Hondsrivier farm in 1904. This farm was owned by C.J.G. Erasmus. The town adopted the name Bronkhorstspruit in 1935.

In 2011 the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality took over the municipal administration from the abolished Kungwini Local Municipality.

The warmest month of the year is January with average temperatures of 21.7 °C. June is the coldest month, with temperatures averaging 14.0 °C, as well as the driest month with 17 mm of rain. Most of the precipitation here falls in January, averaging 147 mm.

The 20km ruins eco-trail allows visitors to see a wide range of fauna and flora, which include a variety of birds, small animal, indigenous flower and trees. Braai facilities, 4x4 camping, and MTB trails are also available onsite.

Residents can visit the largest Buddhist temple in the Southern Hemisphere, the Nan Hua Temple. It is located a short distance away in Cultura Park. It houses the South African headquarters of the Humanistic Buddhist order. Established in October 1993, the temple has a specialist Pureland meditation retreat centre which is open to all people - both monastic and laity. The centre includes a large meditation hall, a monastic residence, and residences for the meditation practitioners.

Bird lovers will enjoy a visit to the Bronkhorstspruit Dam Nature Reserve, just 16km away from Erasmus. There are over 200 species of birds to see. The spotting of the pink-billed lark is considered as a lucky sight by avid bird watchers - should you manage to catch a glimpse of one here. The Bronkhorstspruit Dam is a favourite for anglers, especially for the bass that lurks in the thick grass that lines the banks of the dam.
