Popular for its rolling hills and yellow canola fields, the town of Caledon is located in the Overberg region, about 100 kilometers east of Cape Town, next to mineral-rich hot springs. Caledon is well-known for its agricultural activities which involve grain production and stock farming.

A brief history of the area
The Caledon hot springs were discovered by the early Khoi-Khoi people. The Europeans attributed healing properties to the iron-rich waters and opened a sick house and later a sanatorium, which was destroyed by fire. 

The waters of Caledon are free of any organic matter and was awarded the first prize as the world's top quality mineral waters in the 1893 Chicago World Fair.

The area was originally known as Bad agter de Berg (Dutch for Bath behind the Mountain). A bath house was built in 1797 and a village called Swartberg sprang up. It was later renamed Caledon.

Caledon has a warm and temperate climate. The average temperature in Caledon is 15.9 °C. The warmest month of the year is February, with an average temperature of 20.1 °C. In July, the average temperature is 11.0 °C. It is the lowest average temperature of the whole year. In winter, there is much more rainfall in Caledon than in summer. About 596 mm of precipitation falls annually. The driest month is January, with 24 mm of rainfall. Most precipitation falls in August, with an average of 79 mm.

Other attractions and facilities include wooden bridges, picnic spots, lawns, indigenous trees and shrubs, an abundance of birdlife and a tearoom and walking trails to enjoy. The reserve also hosts a wildflower show every spring to exhibit the many flowers that are abundant in the area.
