History - The Old East
Menlo Park along with Waterkloof, Brooklyn and Lynnwood are collectively known as Pretoria's Old East as these suburbs were once situated most easterly before the city expanded further to include more neighbourhoods. The suburb was established between the 1950s and 1960s, and at the time, it was largely made up of grandiose freestanding homes with Victorian and Dutch architecture. Although most of these homes still exist today, the residential market has expanded to include a wider selection of properties including ultra-modern apartments, traditional freehold homes, spacious duplexes and opulent estates.

Menlo Park enjoys a humid subtropical climate with an average annual temperature of a cool 18.7°C. During the summer, the days are hot with a good amount of rain, while winters are very cold and dry with nighttime temperatures sometimes reaching below 0.
