Rietfontein at a glance
Between the Magalies Berg and the Daspoortrant, from Derdepoort in the East to Maanhaarrand in the West is the area known as the Moot. It includes the suburbs of Gezina, Villieria, Rietfontein, Rietondale, Moregloed and Waverley. To the West, the Suburbs of Mountainview, Suiderberg and surrounds are also considered to be part of the Moot.
The suburbs are mostly named after the original farms from 1855 and later. Moot is an older suburb, with generous sized properties and lovely gardens.
The Moot was originally a water rich area and was very suitable for farming activities. Die name "Moot" is probably from the Moot river ("spruit") which flows through the area. Another prominent feature in the area, is the number of strong bore holes.
There are a number of quality primary and secondary schools in the area, such as Oos-Moot High School, CR Swart High School, Clapham High as well as Villieria and Totiusdal Primary schools to name a few.
Another advantage to a stay in the Moot is its central location. The city centre with its museums and State Theatre is only a few kilometres away, as is Loftus Versfeld rugby stadium, the University of Pretoria and Tshwane University of Technology.
At least three popular shopping centres - Jacaranda, Waverley Plaza and Gezina City - are all within easy reach of the suburb, and the large shopping Malls of the Montana area are also only a short trip away.
Medical facilities in the area are Pretoria Academic hospital, Eugene Marais hospital and Moot General Hospital.
Property prices vary, but remain far more affordable than in the Eastern Suburbs.
